The facility has four Francis turbines. In addition to the water from the upper level of Blåsjø, Kvilldal Power Plant utilises water from the middle level by means of long transfer tunnels from Årdalselva river to the south, Bråtveitåna to the north and Mosvatnet lake to the west.

Like other power plants from the 1980s and 90s built into the mountainside, Kvilldal Power Plant’s machine hall is designed by architect Egil Sorteberg.
