Sagfossen Power Plant was originally built by Trescow in 1919. The power plant was destroyed in the flood of 1987, and a new power plant was commissioned in 1989. Sagfossen is the smallest power plant in the Siljan watercourse. The station utilises the service water from Hogstad to produce energy and has a flow rate of 7.5m3/s. The turbine uses a speed increasing gearbox to drive the generator. This is highly unusual, and caused a number of unexpected problems after commissioning. The power plant can be regarded as a run-of-the-river power plant, since production can only be maintained for 10-12 hours after a production shutdown at Hogstad.
